Plasma-Rich Fibrin Treatment Hamlin
PRF refers to Platelet-Rich Fibrin, a method of blood collection used to accelerate wound healing after invasive dental procedures and surgery or as part of a pretreatment to complement a successful procedural outcome. The good news is that PRF is a natural biomaterial derived from your own blood following a venipuncture. No donor required.
PRF extraction is similar to donating blood, but it requires minimal collection compared to a full medical-grade donation as seen at a blood drive.
Your Hamlin dentist may use PRF therapy in many capacities, including but not limited to:
- Tooth Extractions: To prevent dry socket and accelerate healing
- Bone Grafting: To improve the success of the graft
- Dental Implants: To enhance bone growth and ensure a strong foundation
- Gum Surgery: To regenerate tissue and promote faster recovery
We are always pleased to offer advanced therapies in our dental office that promote patient healing, comfort, and diagnostics, and are thrilled with PRF and what it means for our valued clients.
What Is PRF in Hamlin, NY, and How Do We Make It?
We're excited about PRF therapy, and it shows!
PRF provides a slow and sustained release of growth factors over 7-10 days, which enhances wound healing, increases vascularization, and can eliminate dry sockets following a tooth extraction.
By layering a surgical or treatment site with PRF, we saturate it with the patient’s own platelets, white blood cells, growth factors, and cytokines. In other words, the site is overloaded with the vital components necessary for wound healing.
- Small Blood Draw: We draw a small amount of blood.
- Blood Preparation: The blood is spun or centrifuged at a specified speed and for a specified timeframe to prepare it for use.
- Blood Separation: We separate the blood into layers, and the vital PRF forms in the middle as a jelly-like clot.
- PRF Collection: The PRF is collected and compressed into a membrane, used as a plug, and/or utilized in liquid form.
- Treatment with PRF: Your dentist administers the PRF and/or uses it as part of your treatment plan.
