Frequently Asked Questions

Veneers can last a decade or longer with proper care and healthy habits.

Consider the following:

  • Oral Hygiene — Brush and floss your teeth at least twice daily.
  • Dental Checkups — Visit your Hamlin dentist for checkups and teeth cleanings.
  • Smart Habits — Never use your teeth or veneers as tools to open packages.
  • Be Mindful — If you notice signs of bruxism (teeth grinding), talk to your dentist.
  • Be Safe — Wear the proper mouthguard during ball-oriented or contact sports.
  • Call Us — If you notice oral health changes, always let us know.

The idea is to keep your oral health in check and your smile safe to avoid veneer damage or future tooth loss due to gum disease or other complications.

What Is a Porcelain Veneer?

Instead of covering your tooth completely like a crown, a veneer fits snugly over the front surface of your tooth to conceal minor cosmetic flaws, such as:

  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Tooth stains or discoloration
  • Gaps or spacing between teeth
  • Tooth size or shape irregularities
  • Slight tooth misalignment

Dr. Garcia designs and customizes the veneer to fit over your tooth and blend with it for a flawless finish. Porcelain veneers can create symmetry, allowing us to redesign your smile.

What Is a Composite Veneer?

A composite veneer is an option for restoring your smile that adds composite resin to your tooth to fix the same problems that porcelain veneers address. Composite resin is a blend of tiny glass and resin particles that Dr. Garcia can custom shade to match your tooth. This is the same material we would use for a tooth-colored filling.

Composite bonding is typically a less costly option for restoring small cosmetic flaws than porcelain veneers. However, they tend not to last as long and may need replacing after five to seven years. Dental Bonding is a non-invasive treatment that Dr. Garcia can typically complete during one visit.

Caring for Dental Veneers

Caring for dental veneers is surprisingly simple because you can brush and floss your teeth as usual. Be careful not to use whitening toothpaste, as it’s often abrasive and could scratch the surface of your porcelain veneers.

To protect your veneers and natural teeth, avoid biting directly into hard foods like apples or carrots. Instead, cut them into smaller, bite-sized pieces that won’t crack or fracture your veneers or natural tooth.

Which Is the Right Option for My Smile?

If you’re considering enhancing your smile, the first step is to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Garcia to learn more about your options. He spends ample time getting to know you and listening to your concerns and goals for your smile.

Dr. Garcia also gathers information with photos and x-rays to help you make an informed decision about the best treatment for your goals, lifestyle, and budget. You will leave your evaluation with a customized treatment plan that reveals your treatment options, timeframe, and costs.
